Liquid Xenon Positron Emission Tomography

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a medical imaging technique that provides information about the function and the metabolism of the organs. It is an invaluable tool in the diagnosis of several diseases, including cancer, cardiac and neuropsychiatric diseases. The objective of the liquid xenon (LXe) PET project is to improve PET imaging to approach its ultimate capability. The LXePET system under development at TRIUMF is a novel high-resolution preclinical PET system based on LXe gamma ray detectors.
